Happy Birthday, Mr. Taylor. When I think of the year of your birth, I think of Octaviano Larrazolo, in his second year as governor of New Mexico. I think of Nina Otero-Warren, a leading suffragist in the state, soon to run for the U.S. Congress. Now one of your relatives is in the gubernatorial mansion and another is in Congress. Your life spans so much of the history of this beautiful land.
For me you are part of the essence of New Mexico: brilliant, cultured, warm, deeply hospitable, inclusive, and committed to social justice. I have treasured our conversations about political history and seeing your home, each inch of which is a setting for art and for glimpses of New Mexico’s past. I wish you a wonderful year ahead and hope all your community of friends can be together for next year’s celebration.
